How did you become addicted?
I just graduated high school and I was having trouble grasping life. My father was dieing, my mother was sick, and my grand mother just died. I couldn't deal with life. A friend gave me 30mg oxycodone and i snorted it. Loved it. Even know i knew tons of people who were addicted, i never thought it would be me. I was on my way to college, had a great home, and a amazing family. I used oxycontin for 3 years straight with maybe a week or even a month of stopping. But always went back. I tried quiting off pure will power and it never worked. Never will. I ended up doing about 7-10 80mg pills every day. I was really strung out and did not know what to do.

Your turning point? (What made you choose recovery?)
A old friend called me and asked if i had been using. He suggested I tell my parents so I could get help. Of course i wanted to find the easier softer way so went to his house to detox. My withdrawls were so bad that i started having mini seizures. I was totally insane so I decided to tell my parents and went to a rehab in Tucson called Cottonwood De Tucson. I did my 30 days and was still crazy. I thought 30 days would fix me, too bad that one is nmot true.

Tell us about your recovery.
I now have 1 year sober, no alcohol, no drugs, nothing. After I got done with my 30 day treatment i went to a after care and found the magic of the 12 step programs. I realized the drugs are not the problem its me. The way I think is distorted at best. I was a hopeless case and now i have recovered. I will never be cured, but I have found a spiritual solution to my problem.

Your advice to others?
My advice would to be to give up on your plans, methadone clinics, trying to move, thinking that you can figure out how to beat this. You can not alone. I would start off by trusting the people you care about the most. You way does not work, why would you think it would be different this time.
Get help, and find your way back to a new life.
