How did you become addicted?
I was hurt in a work injury accident when I was 19 years old. I was a young mother and in an abusive relationship, my boyfriend's sister was already taking pills addictively and I soon followed. I was able to not only get my own pills but would call Doctor's on call and get pills prescribed in fake names.

Your turning point? (What made you choose recovery?)
My husband and son had to both have surgery and I stole their medicine and took my daughter with me on a pill buy. STUPID! The things that I did to not get sick, make me sick. I hated myself and what I had become - I had a full time job, 2 college degrees, a wonderful family and I was risking it all. My husband said it was treatment or the kids and he were leaving me.

Tell us about your recovery.
I have been sober since August 29, 2007. I have 4 months and 2 weeks clean and I feel wonderful. I am not so grouchy and I am not sick all the time. I am a better mother, wife and employee. I am still in out patient treatment and want to be for awhile. I want to make sure I am well.

Your advice to others?
I was afraid of who I would be without my drugs, I had used them for so long I did not know if I would like myself anymore. Just know that you will still be you, just without the drug seeking, the cravings, the binges, and the sickness that you have with taking the pills.
